Project highlights
Large-scale projects

HOCHTIEF Construction is building Barwa Commercial Avenue in Doha, a project valued at EUR 1.3 billion. The more than eight-kilometer retail and commercial center will be completed in mid-2012. Covering nearly 900,000 square meters of gross floor space—equal to around 110 soccer fields—the complex will offer exclusive retail, office and residential units. We already provided consulting services to the client in the planning phase of the project based on our partnership-based PreFair business model and used virtual construction technology: HOCHTIEF ViCon developed a complex 3D model of the shopping center which could be used to calculate the precise quantities of construction materials required.

Office and commercial buildings

In Frankfurt, the Tower 185 building will be constructed by spring 2010. At more than 185 meters, the 50-story tower is among the tallest buildings in Germany. After completion, the building is expected to receive LEED Gold certification. The contract is worth EUR 62 million.

Since July 2009, HOCHTIEF Construction has been revitalizing the former Unilever high-rise in Hamburg and expanding it into the new Emporio urban quarter, featuring office and commercial space, apartments and a 325-room hotel. The Emporio received the silver preliminary certification from the German Sustainable Building Council in early 2009. The contract is worth EUR 121 million.

Real estate development projects

HOCHTIEF Construction is developing and building one of the largest residential complexes in North Rhine-Westphalia by 2011: the Wildparkcarrée project in Düsseldorf- Grafenberg. The development will include 280 rental units and freehold apartments as well as luxury townhouses. An initial 140 apartments constructed during phase one representing an investment of EUR 40 million have already been sold.

Public-private partnership projects

In April 2009, HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions was awarded a contract by the town of Moers in North Rhine-Westphalia to design, finance and build a new town hall with an adjacent education center and then to operate this complex for 23 years after completion. HOCHTIEF Construction is responsible for the construction work on behalf of its sister company. The share of the contract value accruing to HOCHTIEF Construction is EUR 48 million.

Infrastructure projects

As partners in a joint venture, HOCHTIEF Construction is extending Prague’s metro line A along with its Czech subsidiary. The project includes lengthening the line by approximately six kilometers and adding four stations. The total value of the contract is around EUR 500 million, with HOCHTIEF’s share coming in at roughly EUR 190 million.

In Ho••ice in the Czech Republic, we are participating in a sustainable project aimed at renovating all public buildings and removing all barriers to accessibility throughout the town’s infrastructure, ranging from roads, walkways and public lighting to water mains.

Airport projects

In Wroclaw, Poland, HOCHTIEF Polska is planning and building the new passenger terminal for the international airport by 2011. The contract worth around EUR 56 million features construction of a new three-story terminal along with the access roads and 1,000 new parking spots.

We are also expanding the airport in Poland’s second largest city, Lodz, and preparing to build a new airport in Vladivostok, Russia.

Energy

In the year under review, we built the first offshore wind farm in Germany, “alpha ventus,” north of the island of Borkum in conjunction with several of the country’s major utilities. The wind farm includes 12 wind turbines that HOCHTIEF Construction installed at a depth of 30 meters and a transformer station. Use of our Odin jackup platform was vital in seamlessly conducting the necessary
